It has been very hot

I haven't got a lot done lately because it has been so hot. It has been in the 90's and rather muggy. It does not cold down too much at night because of the humidity. I have a four day weekend so hopefully I will get motivated to get some things done around the property.

Changed Water system

We put the water tank in the barn and put new PVC in so it will be easier to water the poultry. I really like this type of system. It use the weight of the water to stop the flow of water into the little bowls. Since the fittings to the waterers are brass if it freezes they will not break, however the PVC plumbing can and will. I was a little behind last fall and broke a pipe. We made it so the whole system can be drained for freezing weather. Well at least during most of the year I will not have to haul water 3-4 times to all of the animals. Later we will hopefully be able to bring a waterline from the second well to make the system more automatic and put a faucet near or in the barn.

Daylilies and more

Yahoo! The scented daylilies are blooming and so are the some of other ones.

My vegetable garden is also doing well. I have already harvested sugar and regular pea. The potatoes and carrots should be ready soon. All of the pumpkin, and melons are doing great. This year, since I have a real problem with squash bugs, I started spraying the pumpkins with bug spray when they started running or else I lose them before I know it. I also sprayed all of the other squash type plants.

Well tragic struck again. Somehow a raccoon got into the hen house and I cannot figure out how. Well anyway I lost 20 hens in the turmoil. I put the remaining hens inside a dog run in the main barn with the dogs loose to keep anything out of the barn. It worked last night and the dogs did not bark as much as usual which was great. I had to put the turkey in a smaller square kennel area but they are doing fine. They do not more around too much anyways.

Daylilies

Today I took pictures of the daylilies blooming. Only the orange ones are blooming right now. I have some daylilies that are other colors and have very nice scents and I hope they will bloom soon. You can see how the daylilies are covering the walkway. I will need to transplant some of them in the fall. I also took another picture of the house. It still needs a lot of work. Hopefully the porch will get fixed this year so I can begin landscaping the front.

Hatching Egg

I got my Lakenvelder hatching eggs today. A couple of the eggs arrived broken so I have 11 eggs in the Egg Incubator. I am rather new to doing this egg hatching adventure and had some luck with hatching Barnvelders but no luck with the duck eggs I tried last.
I
Had coyote attack yesterday and took one goose. So much for Rocky the so called guard watch dog. He was just hanging out I guess. I notice something was wrong when I notice a goose that looked like it was stuck in the fence when I looked out a window so I went to investigate. I found only three geese and then I saw a coyote run by the barn. We never found the goose or evidence so I suspect it was taken away by one.

Goose attack

Well somehow most likely a raccoon managed to open the top door of the coop we kept the two large geese and killed one and bit the other around 5 times in the head. It seems to be doing okay. We treated the wounds and kept in in the barn for a couple of days for rest. I let it out today and it seemed to be doing fine. She still looks like a mess.

All of the other chicks seem to be doing good. I should have some welsummer eggs coming soon so I need to get the egg hatcher running.

The garden is coming along. I started harvesting the peas and some potatoes should be soon since some of the plants are starting to flower. I can't wait for fresh new potatoes. As soon as it dries enough I will be able to plant some more vegetables and till some more land to plant more pumpkins and corn.
