End of April
It has been a while since I last posted. It got cold again and my potatoes got the top frozen. I did not relize it was going to get so cold or I would had covered them. My peas are all up but growing slowly. I have carrots up an hopeflly the beets will be up soon.
I have gotten more birds. I have four Ameraucanas and six welsummers chicks in the brooder. The other four chicks are with the adults now. They are so friendly and come right up to you. I have never had chickens so friendly.

Spring came and went
It was a wonderful weekend in the 70's. As I pasted by the garden centers I noticed a lot of people buying plants but it is really too soon put out much. It is now rather cold with the cold front coming from the Rocky Mountians where it snowed this weekend.
My spring flowers of tulips and such are in flull bloom as you can see in the photo. My lilacs are also booming. It looks as if just about all of the 150 shrubs I planted are growing or budding. We will see when hot weather hits how they do.
My cabbage plants and lettuce are ready to plant. I have them out side in a cold frame and hopefully will get them out this Friday if not sooner. I started about 50 tomato plants in the basement but will not put them into the regular garden untill next month nad will put them in the coldframes in a couple of weeks..
The electric fence is still working great. It was well worth the cost.

New this week
I got a electric poultry fence and put it up this weekend. It held the Fayoumi in for one day until they figured out they could fly over it without being zapped. I checked their wings this morning and reclipped feathers off all of them. I clipped both wings back rather far so hopefully they are okay. I checked them at 11 a.m. and they were still in the scratch area looking rather annoyed.
I noticed today that some of the potatoes are growing and peas plants are also coming up. The garden is looking rather good with the exception of some of the hills a messed up due to chickens scratching on them.
