Respect
If you want to succeed in your chosen profession, create a loving family environment, improve a relationship, find your soul mate, or just improve the quality of your personal life, make a conscious commitment to practice showing respect in everything you do and everything you say. source
Respect is the by-product of a four-letter word ? L-O-V-E
Love is one emotion, however we express it on different levels for different people. We love our significant others, children, friends, co-workers, and parents in different ways, yet we still love them.
Respect plays a HUGE role in building people's self esteem, increasing energy levels, motivating and promoting well-being. Regardless of who we interact with, it can be expressed on one level alone and does not have to be tailored to suit the relationship.
Respect can be demonstrated in a variety of ways:
- attentive listening
- referring to a person by name
- being courteous and polite
- learning the person's values and beliefs so as not to offend with inappropriate or offensive remarks
- taking the person aside when need be to discuss matters that would offend or demean if handled publicly
- eliminating offensive language and profanity from your vocabulary
By treating others with respect, you will be amazed by how they will go out of their way to support you. Like-minded individuals will be drawn to you and you will be treated with the same respect you show to others.
By showing respect you are silently communicating, "You Matter" and although you may not see an immediate impact, you are making a positive difference and will be rewarded for your kindness through universal reciprocation.
As you start this week, make a conscious effort to show respect to every soul you encounter, even the gnarly lady at the fruit stand and the cranky bus driver. Learn people's names and show a genuine interest in them. Wish them a good day and thank them for their efforts.

Still Looking
Today as I was searching for jobs I came across an English teaching job in China which was very interesting. I think I will research the propescts for that. I also applied for a job in Middle East last week and we shall see were that goes. It is with a well known company but you still have to a little careful.
Tulips and Poppies
This area used to have a pond made by one of the previous owners. It was filled wih dirt when we moved in and I tried to make it back into a pond but the ducks torn the liner and the cement was cracked. I put some soil back in and now I am trying to make a rock garden.
Pink (Dianthus)
Not everyone is a fan of Dianthus but they are a rather hardy plant as long as they get regular water. I have never noticed insects eating them. Put them togther in a group and there small flowers will stand out.

Love is peculiar; it pushes in opposite directions.

Poppies
This area with poppies I discovered the first sping we lived here. They were most likley planted by the family that homesteaded the land in the 1800's
Vegetable Gardening in Kansas Zone 5
This is where I planted the beans and tomatoes the potatoes are in the back.
You can see them growing now
I had a temporary case of insanity yesterday when I jumped the gun with planting. Here in the prairie of Kansas the usual crop you plant this month are the cool weather crops.
Last month and this month these are the following crops planting times suggested:
Cabbage : March 15-April 15
Collards : April 10-April 30Chard : April 10-April 30
Carrots : April 10-April 30
Broccoli : March 15-April 15
cauliflower: March 15-April 22
Melons : April 15 - May 22
Lettuce : March 10- April 10
Potatoes : March 11-April 15
Peas : March 5-April 30
Spinach : April 1- April 30
Beets : March 26-April 30
Corn : April 24-June 30
So you can see from this list that tomatoes and Beans are not his month and are planted next month. This is because the last frost date is May 9 in this area.
Beans: May 5-June 10
Tomatoes : May 1-May 30
So what does this mean for me. It means that I may have to go out one night and cover the plants to prevent them from getting killed by a frost. So I am taking a chance with weather. Well, that's the way it is with weather and trying to beat the weather to get an early crop. I just planted bush beans because I will be planting beans later after I start the corn which I can plant very soon.

Americans commute longer, farther than ever
Americans commute longer, farther than ever
The longest commuter is going from silicon valley to Mariposa CA which is the Sierra Nevada foothills on the way to Yosemite and is one of my favorite areas also. So I can understand why he does this. I do not know if I would be able to do that day to day myself but then again I also have other obligations and that long of a commute would not work. I also do not like to drive that much.
I am told my Grandfather used to commute form New Jersey to his Office in New York. I am not sure how long of a drive that was
I have a commute myself of about 32 miles and it takes me about 30 to 45 minutes. It is a give and take situation since I have animals that would not be allowed in the city.
I have also lived in Honolulu where from where I lived to where I worked was about a 15 minute drive but during high traffic times it could take over an hour or would take 1 1/2 hours by bus. At least most of the drove there were nice drivers. In Haw
aii there were also a lot of workers that lived on some of the other islands and would fly every day to and from work.

Here We Go Again With Summer Tanks
Now that it has gotten warmer you are starting to see the tank tops with the bra straps showing. Not only is now out of fashion ( the look was in fashion believe it or not) but it can be considered a little sleazy looking and can attract the wrong characters. There is an easy fix. There are bras that are strapless or you can wear a tube top. The layer look is in so you could also wear another shirt under the tank too.
Have You Ever Yearned Another
Have You Ever Yearned Another
Have you ever yearned another
yet the lover had no care
has a tear escaped your eye
yet no more would even dare
does your heart melt melt with a glance
as you offer up a prayer
when you look into their heart
does you heart yearn to be there
have you wanted them so badly
that your heart would start to bleed
have you tried to say I love you
yet a voice would not proceed
don't lend your heart to love dear friend
let your tears fall like the rain
a healing heart will break again
and sadness will remain
you'll ponder thoughts of real love
and wonder if there're true
pity takes no place in life
upon a heart so blue
grand is love yet merciless
the price to pay is high
a choice to take of love or death
my heart would rather die
never lend your heart to love
you'll find my words are true
don't doubt me friend for I should know
I fell in love with you

More...........Tulips
I have tulips planted all around the house and plant a few each years to create pockets of tulips in the spring. The tulips were not the greatest this year I think the weather played a part in the blooming. I was looking at a catalog and their are some new neat types. The Omnyacc tuips looks very interesting. It is a deep red flower with yellow pistils and a interesting shape. The Professor Rontgen is a yellow base with orange tones.
LILACS
COMMON LILAC
Lilacs are best were you get a pronounced chill but there are some that will bloom with a light chill. Light shade is good in very hot areas. They like alkaline soil. After blooming remove spent flowers just above point of flower. Heavy pruning will result in no flowers next year since lilacs form buds where leaves join stems. To keep gettings flowers from old overgrown plants cut a few old stems to the ground each year and then out dead limbs.

Garden
Newly planted patato bed New garden (closer to the house)
We did some more planting of potatoes today. We got about 7 more pounds in another bed in the back garden. I think I may have over did potatoes this year. These last potaotes I planted I used black plasic and will use plastic for the other planting too. Keeping up with the weeds is too much of a chore when you are working.
The fence surround the new garden beds are almost finished. This is where I will plant tomatoes and other palnts that do not take a lot of space. I will still plant the back area but it will grow plants such as corn, melons, pumpkins and other plants that take a lot of growing space.

Gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......................
The weather is not being too helpful for planting right now. I wanted to plant potatoes this weekend but it is too wet. From what the forcast looks like it may be too wet next weekend too. They are starting to sprout right now so they are ready. if they grow too much you can tear them off and then let them sprout again. You can do that twice before it takes too much from them and then they will not grow very well.

Now there's a backlash against the 'mansionization' of America.
I am not suprise by hearing this news. Even around here the homes are getting larger and larger but they are still building some starter type homes. I am not sure why someone would want a 5000 or larger SQFT home. My 2000 SQFT home can sometimes be too much. Those houses just does not seem very homely too me. At least some homes around were I live are not selling for the price they are asking. I quess the bonnies is not a great location for McMansions.

The Joyful Things
The Joyful Things
At times I'm so discouraged
with the problems of the day,
I fail to see the joyful things
that are along the way.
When troubles overwhelm me
it's then my nerves may fray.
That's when I need to take the time
To simply sit and pray.
Reflecting on God's many gifts,
it makes me so aware
of all the joy in little things
around me everywhere!
I must try to remember
though problems come my way,
not to miss the joyful things
and the beauty of the day.
