The Old Friend
A farmer was at a diner one day having lunch when he noticed an old friend.
What really caught his attention was that this friend was wearing an earring.
The farmer knew his old buddy to be a fairly conservative fellow, and was curious about his sudden change in "fashion sense."
The farmer walked up to him and said, "I didn't know you were into earrings."
"Don't make such a big deal, it's only an earring," the fellow replied sheepishly. The farmer was silent for a few minutes, but then his curiosity got the best of him and he asked "So, how long have you been wearing one?" "Ever since my wife found it in my truck," the man replied.

The Keys to Your Heart |
You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free. In love, you feel the most alive when your lover is creative and never lets you feel bored. You'd like to your lover to think you are optimistic and happy. You would be forced to break up with someone who was ruthless, cold-blooded, and sarcastic. Your ideal relationship is open. Both of you can talk about everything... no secrets. Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment. You think of marriage something you've always wanted... though you haven't really thought about it. In this moment, you think of love as something you don't need. "Happy Mother's Day" Means More
Happy Mother's Day" means more
Than have a happy day.
Within those words lie lots of things
We never get to say.
It means I love you first of all,
Then thanks for all you do.
It means you mean a lot to me,
And that I honor you.
But most of all, I guess it means
That I am thinking of
Your happiness on this, your day,
With pleasure and with love.

Is Your Glass Half Empty or Half Full?
Is Your Glass Half Empty or Half Full?
This is mine what are YOu?
Half-Full Glass
You try to look on the bright side, and optimism is a skill you've cultivated to help you weather life's rough spots. All the same, you know it's okay to admit when you're angry or hurt. You're neither blindly positive, nor prone to dwell on slights and injuries, and your generally positive outlook helps prepare you to take risks without being held back by bitterness or a fear of failure. Believe it or not, some scientists have theorized that there is an evolutionary advantage to optimism: Human beings may be programmed to view the world as just slightly better than it actually is, in order to recognize clearly any real threats to our well-being and handle them appropriately. Your ability to rise above negative thinking while remaining realistic about temporary setbacks is a great strength.

'Ike aku, 'ike mai, kokua aku kokua mai; pela iho la ka nohana 'ohana.
Translation: Recognize others, be recognized, help others, be helped; such is a family relationship.
Explanation: Many native Hawaiians live with their extended family and family is the most important part of life for them. This saying teaches why they should put family first...In the Ohana or family, you know others and they know you, you help others and know you will be helped if there is anything you need.

Potato Buns and Doughnuts
I believe a lot of discoveries are made by accident or discovered by doing someting different. At some point in time someone learned that potatoes added to the dough for rolls and doughtnuts created an additional softness in the finished product. I suspect some cook either used water that had potatoes cooked in it to make bread (hey if your have walk to a water source you make do or had extra potatoes). Now some bakers make more mashed potatoes than needed for a meal to make some "planned" leftovers. Yummy! If you do not have mashed potatoes I have used reconstituted instant mashed potatoes with great results. I do not like instant mashed potatoes for mashed potaotes and gravy but I have a small box for baking and use as a thickener. Take 1/2 cup of instant potatoes and add 1/2 cup warm water and via you have mashed potatoes for bread. You can add more to make it thicker if needed.
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1 cup mashed potatoes
1/2 cup lard or shortening
3 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2- 2 packs yeast
1 cup warm water
5 cups flour (if you use all-purpose I suggest adding a tablespoon of gluten)
Mix together the sugar, potatoes. lard, eggs and salt. Dissolve the yeast in 1 cup warm water; then add that to the above mixture.
Stir in about 3 cups of flour. Add the remaining 2 cups flour while kneading. Knead until the dough is no longer sticky but moist.
Let rise until doubled.
For Buns:
Roll out dough into a 3/4" - 1" thickness. Cut into bun shapes with a jar or doughnut cutter and put on greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Let them rise until puffy but not doubled.
Brush with milk. Bake a 325 degrees F until lighly golden brown.
Makes 3 dozen
Doughnuts:
Roll out dough to a 1/2" thickness. Cut out with a doughtnut cutter. Then place on clean towels laid over cookie sheets or boards. Let rise until almost double. Then fry in fat, heat to 350 dress F, about 4 inches deep. Keep fat at that temperature throughout frying. Turn doughnuts once while frying. When they turn golden brown take out and drain.
Glaze for doughnuts
1 pound 10x sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon soft butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Heat together just until butter is melted and milk is warm. Glaze doughnuts while still hot.

Udate Your Wardrobe
Losing weight is a good think but it has caused a major problem in my wardrobe. I have changed from a size 14 to a size 8 in about 6 months. Since I am I was looking around the web and found an interesting article called Update Your Closet in 10 Pieces or Less. I suppose I am a SCHIZOPHRENIA Style dresser like style # 2 even though I had never though of if in that way. I dress rather conservative at work but I love my jeans and frilly girlish casual type of clothing on the weekend and at night when I am able to dress that way but unfornatively I am back working until closing at my job.
I priced the clothing they had suggested and they are designer (we are taking a little expensive) but you can find clothing at Target or other stores for less and get the same type of look. If you sew and have the time you can get very good quality. You just will not get the same quality. Hey, I think I might do some shopping this weekend.

Budget Plan
I decided to see how I was doing on my budget today so I went over the numbers. I basically budget by what is called the 60 % plan. It is a fairly basic plan when you live off 70% of you income. It is not easy but it can be done. You may not be able to live in the house you would really want to or do as many things as you want.
In the plan 10% is considered fun money. You can buy those designers’ Jeans or eat out. This should include those cafĂ© Lattes.
30% is then divided in to three savings plans:
10%: 401K
I have this taken out from my paycheck so I never see it.
10%: Long term savings (stocks, CD, T Bills and other not very liquid forms of savings
This lack of liquidity means it is hard to do impulse spending on this since it takes a while to get the cash and usually takes a few days.
10% is Sort-Term Savings.
This is money saved for vacations, gifts, appliances, car repairs and other needs. This came in handy this year for me when, Yikes, I owed money for taxes. I found out I no longer qualified for the child care tax credit since my two daughters turned 17.
So how did I do you may wonder. Yes, I have amazingly kept within my goals with an average of almost 15% in the Long-Term and Short-Term Savings. My 401k is, of course, 10% because it is automatically deducted from my pay. I just cahged it to 15% to get my money up there and see if I will be able to do it. Well these results makes me happy. At least I am doing better towards my goals. I am only planning on taking my two children for a 3 day weekend vacation this year to Chicago to see the King Tut exhibition that open this month using the short-term savings.
